With all the social distancing and home school mayhem, families are seeking creative solutions for safe outdoor fun for the family and many are choosing a visit to Gilroy Ostrich Farm. In October, to celebrate Fall and Halloween fun, the farm will be hosting lots of safe outdoor activities for children and families in Gilroy and the bay area. There are pumpkins for sale in the marketplace as well as a nice pumpkin patch outside. It’s fun for the children to go outside and pick their favorite pumpkin to take home, but it’s also a great opportunity to take fall family photos because the farm will be decorated for the season. These are the types of memories that last forever. Getting the children out of the house for some exercise is always a good idea, but how about a hale bale maze to run through? During the month of October (from October 2nd – November 2nd) the farm will host a hay bale maze which is great fun and exercise for the children. They can come to the farm in costume and see other children in costumes too and pet and feed all the animals with one admission price which is discounted when you purchase your tickets online at

Gilroy Ostrich Farm follows state directives in regards to Covid-19 and everyone who comes wears a mask and practices social distancing. That includes the staff of the farm who also practice elevated cleaning procedures at the Farm. By following the city mandates, great businesses can remain open to serve the community.

There are great benefits that children gain from visiting the animals too. They just love to feed the ostriches, bunnies, goats, pigs, horses and other animals at the farm. It’s a lot like being at the zoo. The educational benefits of a fun family day out at the zoo do not end with their questions. In fact, there are many more ways in which a day out at the zoo can help your children develop a wide range of key skills that are vital for their overall development. Unfortunately, many children nowadays are not overly connected or engaged with the natural world around them due to technological distractions. Farms and zoo’s offer hands on learning, language development, increased self-awareness, confidence (animals don’t judge) and the added benefit of exercise. The educational benefits are priceless.

The farm is beautiful this time of year too, not too hot, not too cold. Visit the Gilroy Ostrich Farm this fall with the entire family and reap in all the rewards the farm has to offer, including a gift shop that now serves ice-cream and beverages and lots of fun keepsakes for the little ones. We have some fun new merchandise in the marketplace for children while they last, hats, stuffed animals and hats too.

Gilroy Ostrich Farm offers lots of fun this October with Halloween fun in Gilroy and is one of the best outside things to do in the area. So stop by to purchase some pumpkins and bring them home for a fun family art project, or just get the kids out of the house for a terrific learning and growing experience. Children can come in costume (but the CDC recommends no costume masks, especially when wearing a Covid face protection mask. The Gilroy Ostrich Farm staff will be in costume too and lots of fun decorations can be found throughout the farm. Visitors can through the maze, pet and feed the animals but don’t forget your masks!
